People in Qatar are all set to celebrate National Sport Day (NSD) 2022 with various activities and events at different locations around the country.
The activities will be held while following all precautionary and preventive measures imposed by the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
All sports activities and events will be held outdoors this year, the National Sport Day Committee had announced recently. This year’s activities will be held under the slogan ‘Sports is Life’ to express the importance of dedicating a day to sports and to mark the 10th anniversary of the launch of NSD.
The NSD activities will be held at various locations, such as Aspire Park, Education City, Katara – the Cultural Village, Al Bidda Park, Museum of Islamic Art Park, The Pearl-Qatar, Al Bayt Stadium Park, walking and cycling tracks, sports clubs, Lusail Multi-Purpose Hall (only for women), as well as different public parks in the country.
In a statement yesterday, Katara said visitors would be able to participate in activities held between 8am and 4pm in the southern area, Katara Hills and on the beach. The activities will be held in co-operation with nearly 30 private and government agencies, sports federations and health institutions.
Qatar Foundation’s first car-free day will coincide with Qatar’s National Sport Day today, when staff, students and visitors making their way to Education City will need to park their cars in designated spots around campus and then either walk or use alternative modes of transport – such as scooters, bikes and the Education City Tram – to reach their final destination.
Activities will also be held at Oxygen Park.
Doha Metro has said it will connect people to "activity-friendly" areas such as Sport City, Al Bidda Park and the Corniche.
Meanwhile, the Qatar Met department said in its Sport Day forecast that strong winds and high seas are expected in the country today. It will be relatively cold during the daytime with slight to blowing dust in some places at times and cold by night.
Northwesterly winds will blow at 10-20 knots, going up to 30 knots at times, with the sea level rising to 12ft. The temperature is expected to range from 15-22C in Doha today.
According to the health protocol issued by the MoPH, the number of participants shall not exceed more than 15 vaccinated people.
The number of participants in a single event must not exceed 15 vaccinated people, or five individuals if the participants are unvaccinated, such as children under 12, provided they show a negative Covid-19 result through a rapid antigen test done within 24 hours before the activities.
