The Ministry encourages staff and the entire population to practice sports on this year's National Sports Day individually or outdoors while adhering to established health requirements and guidelines, reflecting the vision of the sports day, to adopt physical activity as a daily behavior among members of the community for a healthy life.

MoPH issued the healthcare protocol and public health measures for National Sports Day, to provide guidance on how to practice safe sports activities associated with sports day during Covid19, and to take effective public health measures to protect the health of participants, spectators, and organizers, by reducing the risk of transmitting the epidemic before, during, or after the events.

HE Dr. Hanan Mohammed Al Kuwari said: "Sports Day clearly demonstrates the great interest of the wise leadership in the health of citizens, as Qatar is the first country to dedicate a sports day as an official holiday, during which sports events are organized to promote awareness of the importance of sport and its role in the lives of individuals and society. The State has also provided facilities and means to promote sports such as playgrounds, pedestrian and cycling tracks and parks to encourage members of society to adopt physical activities as a lifestyle.

She also explained that the sports day reinforces the health message of the ministry, which seeks to engage the community to maintain the public health of the population, through the national health strategy that focuses on promoting health and prevention as a strategic priority. The ministry adopts many initiatives aimed at promoting healthy lifestyles including physical activity, to be a daily behavior among members of the community for a long healthy life.

HE added: "This year's sports day is characterized by the fact that Qatar is preparing to organize the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. Through the cooperation between MoPH, the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy, WHO and FIFA, we are seeking to create a legacy of health and sports, where joint activities will be established to promote healthy lifestyles, health security and physical and mental safety during the event."
