Qatar's diplomatic, consular and representative missions abroad organised sporting events on National Sport Day (NSD).
Qatar’s embassy and Permanent Mission to the UN and International Organisations in Vienna held sporting events with the participation of the diplomatic and embassy staff.
In a speech on this occasion, ambassador Sultan bin Salmeen al-Mansouri said that Qatar, with the support and direct guidance of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, has been encouraging sports and achieving awareness of its importance and role within society, so that it has become a way of life, and an incentive to practise it regularly.
He noted the great importance that the state attaches to sports, pointing out that this annual celebration has become a distinctive mark added to Qatar's achievements at the international level.
The ambassador said that sport has become a strategic choice for the country, pointing out to the emergence of many creative and innovative initiatives, and the establishment of many huge sports facilities, which made Qatar the “capital of sports” in the Middle East, hosting the most prominent sporting events during the recent period, including the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2022.
In Brussels, Qatar's ambassador to the EU and the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (Nato) Abdulaziz bin Ahmed al-Malki held a celebration by organising events, which included various activities and exercises.
A number of officials from the various EU and Nato bodies participated.
Al-Malki praised the annual tradition, pointing out the importance of exercising and the many benefits for individuals and society.
In Riyadh, the Qatar embassy organised a sports event that saw the participation of ambassador Bandar bin Mohamed al-Attiyah, embassy staff, and employees of the GCC General Secretariat.
In a speech on this occasion, al-Attiyah said that since 2012 Qatar has designated the second Tuesday of February of each year as a Sport Day, to encourage participation in sports activities, an indication of the importance that Qatar attaches to raise the profile of sport, with its many benefits for citizens and residents, especially since Qatar will organise the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 at the end of this year, as well as the 2030 Asian Games.
In Jeddah, the Qatar consulate organised a sports event.
In Kuwait, the Qatar embassy held events on this occasion, which included walking.
The events were attended by ambassador Ali bin Abdullah al-Mahmoud, Military Attache Colonel Ahmed bin Ali al-Mahshadi al-Maadeed, diplomats and embassy staff.
In Amman, the Qatar embassy organised events on this occasion with the participation of ambassador Sheikh Saud bin Nasser bin Jassim al-Thani, a number of ministers, officials and ambassadors accredited to Jordan, and members of the diplomatic mission.
In Khartoum, the Qatar embassy organised events with the participation of ambassador Abdulrahman bin Ali al-Kubaisi, diplomats and embassy staff, the military attache in Khartoum, and representatives of Qatari companies and organisations operating in Sudan, and a number of community figures.
In Cairo, the Qatar embassy held a sports event at Al Ahly Club, with the participation of ambassador Salem bin Mubarak al-Shafi, diplomats, senior Al Ahly club officials, a number of public figures and the embassy staff.
In Tehran, the Qatar embassy held a sports event with the participation of ambassador Mohamed bin Hamad al-Hajri and a number of Iranian officials and the sports elite, in addition to a number of other ambassadors, diplomats and embassy staff.
In Beirut, the Qatar embassy held a sports event that included football and table tennis competitions.
In Algiers, the Qatar embassy organised sporting events with the participation of ambassador Abdulaziz bin Ali al-Naema, members of the diplomatic mission, the military attaché, and the administrative staff.
The programme held in Algiers’s Sports Complex of Civil Protection included volleyball, football and walking.
In Tripoli, Libya, In, the Qatar embassy held a sporting event to mark the occasion with the participation of the Acting Chargé d'Affaires Ahmed bin Ali al-Kubaisi and the embassy staff.
In Rabat, the Qatar embassy organised a sports event on the occasion of the National Sport Day.
 
 
In Canberra, Australia, the Qatar embassy held NSD events that included football matches, the use of sports equipment in the indoor hall, and long walks. Ambassador Saad bin Abdullah al-Mahmoud, the embassy's diplomatic staff, employees, and a number of community figures participated.
In Bangkok, Thailand, the Qatar embassy held a sports event with the participation of Chargé d'Affaires Abdullah bin Mohamed al-Dasman al-Kubaisi, diplomats, and embassy staff.
In Manila, the Philippines, the Qatar embassy’s NSD event saw the participation of Charge d'Affairs Mohamed Yousef al-Malki, Third Secretary Hassan Muhana al-Ajmi and local staff.
In Myanmar, the Qatar embassy held events that included tennis, table tennis, football, and free running, with the participation of Charge d'Affaires Mansoor Mubarak al-Khayarin and the embassy staff.
In Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, the Qatar embassy organised NSD events that included cycling, walking, and jogging.
Participation in the events was limited to embassy and military attache employees, due to the restrictions imposed to limit the spread of the coronavirus.
In Tokyo, Japan, the Qatar embassy held a sports event with activities that included football, badminton, and a range of different sports.
In Hanoi, Vietnam, the Qatar embassy organised a sporting event that included football competitions.
In New Delhi, India, the Qatar embassy held an event with activities including football, handball, cricket, a walking race, various games and exercises, and an exhibition of introductory and promotional photographs of the stadiums of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. Acting Charge d'Affairs Ali bin Mohamed al-Badi expressed pride in participating in the National Sport Day.
In Mumbai, the Qatar consulate organised a sports event with the participation of Consul-General Ahmed bin Hazeem al-Sulaiti, diplomats and consulate staff.
The event included free walking and exercises on Mumbai’s Marine Drive Corniche.
In Islamabad, Pakistan, ambassador Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman al-Thani diplomats, members of the military attache's office and the embassy staff took part in the Qatar embassy’s sports event.
In Karachi, the Qatar consulate organised a sports event with the participation of Consul General Mishal bin Mohamed Ali al-Ansari, diplomats, and embassy staff.
In Colombo, the Qatar embassy organised an NSD event in which ambassador Jassim bin Jaber al-Sorour and the embassy staff participated.
Activities included sports activities such as walking, football, volleyball, and tennis.
In Kathmandu, Nepal, the Qatar embassy held an event with the participation of ambassador Yousef bin Mohamed al-Hail, diplomats and embassy employees.
In Dhaka, Bangladesh, the Qatar embassy organised a sports event with the participation of Charge d'Affairs Khaled bin Mohamed al-Sulaiti, diplomats, embassy staff and members of the Qatari medical-office.
In Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, the Qatar embassy organised a sports event with the participation of Tanzania’s Minister of Culture, Arts and Sports Mohamed Omar Mashengirwa, Qatar’s ambassador Hussain Ahmad al-Homaid, and a number of members of the diplomatic corps and embassy staff.
In a speech on this occasion, Mashengirwa expressed appreciation for Qatar’s efforts and interest in sports, and said that Tanzanians are proud of Qatar's hosting of the upcoming FIFA World Cup.
In Abuja, Nigeria, the Qatar embassy organised events attended by ambassador Dr Ali bin Ghanem al-Hajri, Nigeria’s ambassador to Qatar Yakubu Abdullah Ahmed, embassy staff, staff of the Qatar Charity office in Nigeria, and a number of orphans sponsored by Qatar Charity.
In Mogadishu, Somalia, the Qatar embassy organised a variety of sporting events, including volleyball and football, with the participation of the embassy staff as well as staff of the Qatar Red Crescent and the Qatar Charity 's office in Somalia.
In his speech, ambassador Hassan bin Hamza Hashem encouraged the revival of sport and urged youths to take an interest in sport.

The event, which coincided with Canada's annual winter celebration, included walking and jogging. Al-Mansouri affirmed the importance of persevering in exercising sports to maintain physical-fitness and prevent health problems, especially in light of the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.
The Qatar consulate in Houston, US, held a sports event with the participation of diplomatic staff, consular staff, and Qataris in Houston.
In Los Angeles, the Qatar consulate organised events on the occasion of NSD.
In Caracas, Venezuela, the Qatar embassy organised a sporting event with the participation of Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for Asia, the Middle East and Oceania Kabaya Rodrigues, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for Multilateral Affairs Ruben Dario Molina, Qatar’s ambassador Rashid bin Mohsin Fetais, and a number of officials, heads and members of diplomatic missions in Venezuela, and diplomats and staff of the Qatar embassy.
Mohsin Fetais conducted television interviews on the sidelines of the event, which included various sports activities.
In Mexico City, Qatar’s ambassador Mohamed bin Jassim al-Kuwari, diplomats, embassy staff, and a number of community figures participated in NSD events that included a cycling tour of the main streets of the Mexican capital, a football tournament with the participation of various embassies in Mexico.
In Panama City, the Qatar embassy held a sports event with the participation of ambassador Ahmed bin Mohamed al-Duhaimi, Panama’s Olympic Committee secretary-general Jose Pino, representatives of Panama’s foreign affairs ministry and the Panama Football Association, and a number of ambassadors, diplomats and the embassy staff.
In San Jose, Costa Rica, the Qatar embassy organised activities that included a football match, which was attended by ambassador Dr Khamis bin Rashid al-Kaabi, diplomatic staff, and representatives of the Arab community in Costa Rica.
In Asuncion, Paraguay, the Qatar embassy held a sports event at the headquarters of the South American Football Confederation, with the participation of Acting Chargé d'Affairs Saeed bin Hamad al-Marri and the embassy staff.
In San Salvador, the Qatar embassy organised a sports programme that included spinning, yoga, and boxing, in which Acting Charge d'Affaires Tariq Othman al-Othman, diplomatic staff and embassy staff took part.
In Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, the Qatar embassy held events on the occasion of NSD that included cycling in the tourist area in Santo Domingo.
In Quito, Ecuador, the Qatar embassy held an NSD event.
In Bucharest, Romania, the Qatar embassy held a sports event that included activities like football, basketball, handball, volleyball and table tennis, with the participation of a Romanian Olympic team.
The event was attended by Romanian Minister of State for International Relations and Diplomatic Strategies Cornel Feruta, director of the Office of the Romanian Minister of Sports Lukas Laszlo, Director of the Romanian National Federation Teodor Luca, ambassadors, members of the diplomatic corps, and a number of journalists and members of the Qatar embassy staff.
In his speech, Qatar’s ambassador Osama bin Yousef al-Qaradawi referred to Qatar's preparations to host the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, saying that the sports facilities blended international designs with the Qatari heritage.
In Nicosia, Cyprus, the Qatar embassy held sporting events in Doha Park, with the participation of Cyprus’s Minister of Education, Culture, Sport and Youth Office Prodromos Prodromou and Qatar’s ambassador Ali Yousef Abdul Rahman al-Mulla, in addition to ambassadors of the GCC member states, dignitaries, diplomats and embassy staff.
In Athens, Greece, the Qatar embassy held a sports event at the headquarters of the Olympic sports stadiums, with the participation of Greece’s Deputy Minister of Culture and Sports of Greece Lefteris Avgnakis, Qatar’s ambassador Waleed bin Mohamed al-Emadi, and the embassy staff.
In Granada, Spain, the Qatar embassy organised a sports event at the Granada Football Club stadium, with the participation of ambassador Abdullah bin Ibrahim Abdulrahman al-Hamar, Diplomatic Academy president Santiago Velo de Antelo, and Granada Football Club Football general manager Patricia Rodriguez, and new players who contracted with the club.
The flags of Qatar, Spain and Andalusia were raised at the stadium, and the stadium facilities were decorated with the Qatar Sport Day logo.
The event included a mini league of football matches, in which the junior football teams of Granada Club competed.
Medals, cups, and gifts bearing the Qatar Sport Day logo were distributed to the players and winners, and the winning team was crowned.
