Alfardan Group’s Tariqi scholarship programme, launched in 2006, has been supporting eligible students in the pursuit of quality higher education offered by universities in Qatar, as well as training and growth opportunities both personally and professionally.
One of Alfardan Group’s major CSR pillars is education and the Group believes that quality education must be accessible to all citizens and residents of Qatar, it was explained in a statement yesterday.
The programme has benefited 35 alumni and 20 currently enrolled students of 16 nationalities, across 22 different majors. Not only can current students benefit from a relevant professional internship with the Alfardan Group for three months, but upon graduation from their respective universities, students are usually offered a full-time working position within the group for a duration corresponding to the years the respective student was financed during their studies. Many students have so far joined relevant Alfardan Group business units after their studies.
In 2019, the Tariqi programme also joined hands with Qatar Foundation to provide scholarships to currently enrolled students at their US partner universities based on GPA, and opened applications up to the public, expanding its previously limited scope of beneficiaries. The applications are open from January 15 to May 15 each year, after which a rigorous interview and selection process follows.
Successful candidates come from diverse educational and professional backgrounds, have demonstrated a commitment to excellence and are compatible with Alfardan’s core values. They also share a vision for their personal and professional development within the Group, all while sustaining efforts to improve and advance the development of the Group’s businesses.
Sara Alfardan, head of Communications and PR at Alfardan Group said: “Education is strategically important for the development of Qatar as it builds capabilities to diversify the economy, provide quality education to its citizens and residents, and build the capacity for approaching current and future challenges. Human development in diverse fields is also a strategic goal for Alfardan Group as it sustains and expands its diverse portfolio of enterprises.”
The programme is also set to expand its benefits to students to include mentorship, networking, university partnerships and more, while continuing to attract an increasing number of the most talented applicants from across the country and providing a platform for current scholars to grow, the statement added.
