The Government of Qatar, the European Union and European Atomic Energy Community signed in Brussels yesterday an agreement to establish a European Union mission in Qatar, with its privileges and immunities. The agreement was signed by HE the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sultan bin Saad al-Muraikhi and the Secretary-General of the European Union External Action Service Stefano Sannino.
Qatar's ambassador to the EU and Nato, Abdulaziz bin Ahmed al-Malki, attended the signing ceremonies. The agreement follows the decision of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani to establish an EU mission in Qatar, aiming to strengthen the Qatari-European relations and open new horizons for co-operation between the two sides. The agreement is the culmination of many years of intensive and joint work in various fields, a translation of the progress made on the ground and the upgrading of diplomatic relations between the two sides, and a testimony to the great interest that the European Union attaches to Qatar in light of the new common challenges and goals.
