The President of the Republic of Angola Joao Lourenco underlined the importance of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) Summit in promoting the co-operation with the African countries unable to access energy sources.
The 6th GECF Summit is currently held in Doha under the title "Natural Gas: Shaping the Energy Future".
The Angolan President said in a speech to the summit, delivered on his behalf by the ambassador of the Republic of Angola to the State of Qatar Albino Malungo, that natural gas is the only source of energy to many African countries; stressing the significance of the current summit in helping these countries and enhancing the recommendations issued by the fifth summit which was held in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea, in 2019.
The President stressed the importance of co-operation among the GECF member states which collectively produce more than 70% of the world's natural gas reserves. "With more co-operation on the basis of mutual respect, the forum will play a major role in achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and addressing climate change in accordance with the Paris Climate Agreement," the President said.
