Qatar’s ambassador to Kuwait Ali bin Abdullah al-Mahmoud has said that the celebration of the 61st National Day of Kuwait's Independence and the 31st Anniversary of Kuwait Liberation Day are two occasions to recall the sacrifices made by fathers and grandfathers for the sake of building, developing and progressing Kuwait.In a statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA) on the occasion of Kuwait's National Day and Liberation Day, the ambassador underlined that these two occasions are also an opportunity to recall with pride the honorable role of the Qatari Armed Forces that participated in the battle to liberate Kuwait, which remained a symbol of Gulf cohesion.Al-Mahmoud extended his warmest congratulations to HH the Amir of Kuwait Sheikh Nawaf al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah, HH the Crown Prince of Kuwait Sheikh Mishal al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah, the government of Kuwait, and the people of Kuwait.On this occasion, the envoy praised the depth and strength of the strong historical and fraternal relations between Qatar and Kuwait, stressing the keenness of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, the Qatar government, and the people of Qatar, to develop and strengthen these relations in all fields under the leadership of His Highness the Amir and HH Sheikh Nawaf for the good, progress and prosperity of the two nations and peoples.Kuwait’s ambassador to Qatar Hafeez Mohamed al-Ajmi meanwhile affirmed that his country's celebration of its 61st National Day and the 31st Anniversary of Liberation Day are occasions to strengthen the spirit of belonging to the homeland and renew loyalty, recalling the date of June 19, 1961, when the Declaration of Independence was signed and the protection agreement with Britain was canceled, then on May 18, 1964, when a decree was issued merging the National Day on the Sitting Day, the anniversary of the late HH the Amir of Kuwait Sheikh Abdullah al-Salim al-Sabah assuming the reins of government in his country, which falls on February 25 every year.In a statement to QNA, the envoy said these two occasions are an opportunity to emphasise the strength of the solid and rooted Kuwaiti-Qatari relations at all levels.Al-Ajmi noted that the two occasions also represent an opportunity to recall the noble positions of the brothers in the countries of the Co-operation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf (GCC) and the Arab countries and friends from the various countries of the coalition.The envoy stressed the efforts of the Kuwait and Qatar governments to achieve integration and interdependence in all vital areas to achieve the aspirations of their peoples.In his statement, al-Ajmi said that since the founding of Kuwait and Qatar, there have been continuous efforts that included all political, economic, commercial, and investment fields, and co-operation in the military and security fields, education, tourism, and art.A joint higher committee was established on June 18, 2002, to create twinning between the two countries covering all aspects of co-operation and searching for wider horizons for brotherhood, he added.Al-Ajmi added that the joint higher committee has met in five sessions, and completed many agreements, memoranda of understanding, and joint programmes.He recalled that the last meeting was geld in a virtual format in November 2020, during which five memoranda of understanding (MoUs) were signed to enhance the joint co-operation in the fields of encouraging direct investment, civil service affairs, administrative development, and Islamic affairs.Also signed were MoUs for co-operation in the various agricultural fields, and on improving the implementation, construction, and maintenance of roads.Al-Ajmi explained that a large percentage of these agreements were aimed at enhancing economic presence in both countries, which resulted in a volume of trade exchange that amounted to about $293mn for the first nine months of 2019.He added that the number of Kuwaiti companies that entered the Qatari market with 100% ownership is 170 companies, while the number of joint Qatari-Kuwaiti companies operating in the Qatari market reached 626.The ambassador also referred to the close co-operation between the two countries in the field of higher education and scientific research, which resulted in the presence of many Kuwaitis studying in Qatar, and the great military co-operation between the two countries.Furthermore, al-Ajmi said that the 61st National Day and the 31st Anniversary of Liberation Day bring to mind the struggle of the ancestors in their efforts for peace, harmony, and prosperity of Kuwait.The ambassador said that Kuwait enjoys a distinguished position and a good reputation regionally and internationally due to the establishment of its relations with the countries of the world based on openness, consolidating relations with it in accordance with principles based on peace, neighbourliness, and providing help for countries and societies in need.
