Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra (QPO) will perform on March 5 at the Qatar National Convention Centre Auditorium 3, featuring César Franck's Symphony in D Minor.
The QPO concert, conducted Marcus Bosch, marks the 200th birth anniversary the Belgian-French composer and includes Bizet's Symphony No. 1 in C major, which he wrote when he was 17, hid it away in a drawer and told no one about it (still a mystery).
The conductor has been general music director of the State Theatre and State Philharmonic Orchestra in Nuremberg since 2011 and principal guest conductor of the South-West Philharmonic Orchestra in Constance since 2016.
The programme will witness Georges Bizet: Symphony No.1 in C Major, which reveals the dreams of the Orient and the imaginary quests of French popular dances. The symphony’s spontaneous inspiration, its rhythmical vigor, and its originality in colour offer already a foretaste of L'Arlésienne and Carmen. The originality of the music is astonishing, Bizet’s boldness burst, to become a masterpiece that never left the concert scene.
‘César Franck: Symphony in D minor’ is the best-known orchestral work and the only mature symphony written by the 19th-century composer César Franck. The symphony was premiered in Paris on February 17, 1889 and despite dividing musical opinion, at the time and subsequently, it entered the international orchestral repertoire.
César Franck considered one of the most powerful French composers in the second half of the 19th century, his music is marked by soaring, almost improvisatory melodic flights.
QPO’s upcoming concert also include ‘Musical Journey’ in East and Northern Europe on March 11 (5pm and 7.30pm at the Abdul Aziz Nasser Theatre, Souq Waqif. It will also be conducted by Bosch.
“Our Journey begins with Bed?ich Smetana’s Moldau, continuing to Hungary with Franz Liszt’s Hungarian Rhapsody No.2, D Minor. A Brief stop in Russia with Tchaikovsky Overture from Romeo and Juliet followed by one of his most famous Waltz Eugen Onegin. Our final destination takes us to Finland with Jean Sibelius and his Karelia Suite, Op.11. Sit back and travel with Qatar Philharmonic orchestra, you will be thrilled,” QPO noted.
