Former Qatar national skipper Inam-ul Haq and Imal Liyanage smashed superb half-centuries to carry their respective teams past the finish line in the opening encounters of the QCA T20 Tournament for the Premier Division teams.
At the West Bay Grounds, Firox Club set up a stiff 184-run target for Royal Stars after Qalandar Khan cracked two sixes and three fours in his 46 off 29 balls. Atif Bangash added a quick-fire 33 in 20 balls as he cracked two sixes and four boundaries. Waqas Bhatti put up 25 off 17 balls.
Haq showed his vintage class in his 29-ball 51 with a six and six boundaries. Harris Butt supported him well, racing to 40 not out with two sixes and two fours. Irfan Hassan’s 27 with three fours clinched the win in 18.2 overs. Fakhar Zaman of Royal Stars emerged as the best bowler in the match with three for 35 figures. Liyanage of Warriors Club was in rich touch during a 149-run chase against Lankans Club. He fired a six and five fours to lift his team to an eight-wicket victory in 17.1 overs. Earlier Sandun Chamara hit 44, including a six and two fours, and Mohamed Nayeem collected 36 in 22 balls with two sixes and one four. Akash Babu produced a fine all-round performance for Tusker Club who were chasing a 146-run target against Bangladesh Seniors. He followed up his two-wicket haul with 30. Rifayi was the top-scorer for the winners when he posted 39, which had a six and a four.
