Qatar University (QU), in collaboration with the QU Alumni Association (QUAA), organised on Wednesday its annual alumni reunion event for 2022.
The ceremony was attended by a number of honorary guests, senior university officials, faculty members and university employees, QU alumni, and other dignitaries and officials.
The ceremony featured “Coffee with an Alumnus”, which was hosted by HE the Minister of Social Development and Family Maryam bint Ali bin Nasser al-Misnad.
The ceremony saw a number of sessions, the most important of which was the presentation of a documentary film on the alumni club and association and their success stories over 20 years.
It included the honouring of distinguished alumni chapter of the College of Pharmacy for the year 2019-2020, and of the chapter of Bio-Education for the year 2020-2021, the QU said in a press statement.
A film was shown about late Afghan ambassador Abdul Hakim Dalili, who was a graduate of Qatar University, and his family was honoured during the event.
In his opening speech, QUAA president HE Dr Mohamed bin Saleh al-Sada welcomed the guests, saying: “Year after year, the Alumni Association has put in consistent effort.”
“This gathering is significant because it honours Qatar University graduates by bringing them together under one roof and sharing memories from our university days,” he said. “The Alumni Association has played a significant role in reuniting graduates with their universities in recent years, and this event is an opportunity to express our gratitude to all Alumni Association staff.”
"The members of this organisation have continued to work hard to bring us all together,” HE al-Sada added. “I'd also like to express my gratitude to Qatar University's Board of Trustees for their unwavering support for our organisation, of which I will always be a part.”
Speaking to Qatar News Agency (QNA), QU president Dr Hassan Rashid al-Derham said that Qatar University has sought to activate the role of the Alumni Association to make an effective contribution in the service of graduates and society, especially since the university has graduated a large number of students – numbering more than 50,000 – to meet the needs of the Qatar’s labour market.
He added that the aim of the ceremony is to effectively communicate with graduates and restore bonds with their colleagues, professors, and the administrative staff at the university.
Mohamed al-Mohannadi, director of Outreach and Engagement as well as director of the Qatar University president's office, said: “This reunion ceremony is the product of all officials' combined efforts, which made it possible once more.”
“The QUAA strives to reunite graduates and bring them together on an annual basis to benefit from their knowledge and experiences gained from their various jobs,” he said.
"Despite the difficulties we experienced during the pandemic, we were able to make this event a success," he added, expressing gratitude to everyone who contributed to the success of the reunion for 2022.
In her speech on the occasion, Alumni Relations manager Buthaina Ibrahim Langhawi said: “The office collaborated with other departments to plan this major yearly ceremony and oversaw all efforts to make it a success.”
“Every graduate looks forward to seeing their fellow grads at this momentous event, to reminisce about fond memories they shared during their academic years,” she said.
She encouraged the graduates to participate in the association’s activities and its numerous branches in order to take advantage of all the benefits it offers to its members.
HE Dr al-Sada was honoured at the end of the event.
