The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) has confirmed that Abbott baby formula products available in the local market are safe for consumption.
In a statement on Sunday, the MoPH announced that test "results issued by the Central Food Laboratories of the ministry showed the safety of all samples that were withdrawn from the local market for infant formula milk powder products for special uses, produced by Abbott company, of United States of America origin".
The products in question are Similac EleCare, Similac EleCare Jr and Similac Human Milk Fortifier.
The ministry also confirmed that all relevant products offered in the local market are safe for human consumption
The MoPH had taken precautionary measures a few weeks ago after it received a notification from the International Food Safety Authorities Network (Infosan), regarding potentially contaminated baby milk powder products. The products were accordingly withdrawn from the market, with the Ministry of Commerce and Industry announcung a recall of the products in question.
Now, the MoPH has confirmed that these products are safe for use following lab testing.
