FM discusses host of issues in Paris meeting

*Talks held on Ukraine, Libya, Chadian peace dialogue ... with French counterpart
HE the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani met on Thursday in Paris with Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs of France Jean-Yves Le Drian. They discussed ways to enhance and develop bilateral co-operation, coinciding with celebrating 50 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries. They also reviewed the latest regional and international developments, especially the developments in Ukraine and Libya, the nuclear agreement talks and the Chadian peace talks to be hosted by Doha, in addition to exchanging views on a number of issues of common interest.During the meeting, HE Sheikh Mohamed stressed that Qatar's hosting of the Chadian peace talks comes in line with its firm position in support of resolving crises through diplomatic means and dialogue, stressing that Qatar will spare no effort in playing its role with its partners to achieve what would guarantee international security and peace, and achieve stability in the region.On the Ukrainian issue, the foreign minister pointed out that Qatar is monitoring with great concern the military escalation in Ukraine, and that it sees the necessity of adopting constructive dialogue and diplomatic methods at this critical stage to resolve the crisis, and also stresses respect for Ukraine's sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity within its internationally recognised borders.Regarding the Iranian nuclear agreement, HE Sheikh Mohamed stated the the importance of reaching an agreement and calm in the region, and that Qatar believes that diplomacy and the existence of relations based on good neighborliness and mutual respect is the best way to achieve stability in the region.Regarding the Libyan issue, he indicated that Qatar is closely following the Libyan developments, and sees the need to end division and reach political solutions that will achieve stability for the Libyan people.
