*PM chairs first meeting of Supreme Committee for Preparation of Third National Development Strategy
HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz al-Thani, Chairman of the Supreme Committee for the Preparation of the Third National Development Strategy for the State of Qatar, chaired on Thursday the first meeting of the committee.
The meeting represents the official launch of the process of preparing the third development strategy and an extension of the strategic planning in the country to achieve the Qatar National Vision 2030 (QNV) and its development pillars, which stipulated transforming Qatar into an advanced country capable of achieving sustainable development and ensuring providing a high standard of living for its people and future generations.
During the meeting, HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior stressed the importance of learning from the preliminary results of implementing the Second National Development Strategy for the State of Qatar 2018-2022, which will conclude its work by the end of 2022. He noted in this regard the importance of drawing lessons learned from them and the challenges they faced to avoid and overcome them.
HE the prime minister praised the efforts of all government agencies during the past period and the importance of their synergy for the coming period in preparing their strategic development plans in line with QNV.
Also, HE Sheikh Khalid stressed the role and tasks of the committee and the importance of the effective participation of all parties - through the governance structure adopted by the committee - in the planning processes at its various stages, in a way that reflects national aspirations and development priorities.
In this context, he referred to the speech of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani at the opening of the 50th annual session of the Shura Council, in which the Amir noted that the preparation of the third national strategy requires an evaluation of what national strategies have achieved and that the evaluation should also indicate the extent of progress made in achieving the QNV objectives.
The meeting discussed several topics on the agenda and took appropriate decisions.
Established by Cabinet Decision No. 1 of 2022, the Supreme Committee for the Preparation of the Third National Development Strategy is headed by HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, and the President of the Planning and Statistics Authority as vice president, with the membership of the Minister of Finance, the Minister of Public Health, the Minister of State for Energy Affairs, the Minister of Commerce and Industry, the Minister of Education and Higher Education, the Minister of Environment and Climate Change, the Minister of Labour, the Minister of Social Development and Family, the President of the Civil Service and Government Development Bureau, HE Dr Ibrahim al-Ibrahim, and the Assistant President of the Planning and Statistics Authority as the rapporteur.
