Qatar in UN meeting on status of women

Qatar participated in the first ministerial round table of the 66th session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women, which was held at the UN headquarters in New York. The delegation of Qatar was chaired by HE Minister of Social Development and Family Maryam bint Ali bin Nasser al-Misnad.
The meeting dealt with reducing environmental risks and natural disasters related to climate change, and international efforts related to policies and programs on the environment. The meeting also touched upon comprehensive and integrated government measures and relevant international and local models. In her speech, HE the Minister indicated that the issue of climate change is a priority for Qatar, which has translated its vision in this regard through solid government initiatives, methodologies, and policies to combat climate change and its effects on the family and society. HE the Minister stressed that the establishment of a ministry concerned with aspects of community development and women's empowerment; enhances the efforts of Qatar to translate its relevant international commitments. The United Nations Commission on the Status of Women holds its sessions annually, during March of each year, to review women's issues and also provides an opportunity to identify challenges, set global controls and standards, and formulate policies to strengthen them.
