The Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) celebrated Tuesday the 44th anniversary of its establishment in 1978 as the first charitable, volunteering and humanitarian organisation in Qatar.
The ceremony was attended by QRCS secretary-general Ali bin Hassan al-Hammadi, Assistant Minister for Health Affairs at the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) Dr Saleh Ali al-Marri, QRCS chief executive Faisal Mohamed al-Emadi, Qatar Charity (QC) assistant chief executive for the Programmes and Community Development Sector Faisal Rashid al-Fahida, Education Above All’s (EAA) Al-Fakhoora Programme executive director Talal Tarad al-Hathal, Silatech Communication and Partnerships Department director Fahd Malik, and Ahmed Rashid al-Kuwari, humanitarian aid researcher at the Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD).
Many QRCS heads of department, employees, members, volunteers and representatives of foreign offices were also present.
In his opening speech, al-Hammadi said: “Forty-four years have gone, with numerous achievements that changed lives and recorded success stories and smiles.”
“Thousands of vulnerable families have found a home to live in, clothes to wear, and a medical professional to treat them,” he said. “It has been by Allah’s blessing that these achievements have been made and pain has been replaced by hope."
He explained the QRCS’s slogan *Saving Lives and Preserving Dignity: “It was chosen by the founders to represent their humanitarian ambition, inspire the organisation’s goal of improving the lives of the vulnerable, and outline its special strategy of mobilising communities in the face of crises and human tragedies to enjoy a safe and decent life."
Al-Emadi thanked everyone who contributed to the charitable and humanitarian work of the QRCS and Qatar in many international contexts.
He praised the efforts of partners as the “main factor in the organisation’s work”.
According to al-Emadi, the QRCS carried out operations in 27 countries, together with partners such as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the QFFD, the MoPH, the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs, and the Regulatory Authority for Charitable Activities, as well as partners supporting various international projects.
In 2021, the QRCS provided services for up to 128,000 beneficiaries from local programmes, 2.4mn beneficiaries from medical services, and had more than 1mn visitors to Workers’ Health Centres, a press statement noted.
Meanwhile, 6.5m people benefited from relief and development projects/aid in 27 countries.
Many representatives of ministries and partners were honoured for supporting the QRCS’s projects and programmes at the local and international levels.
