Active Covid-19 cases fell below 1,000 in the country on Thursday as the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) reported 68 new confirmed cases of Covid-19 during the past 24 hours, as well as 143 recoveries from the virus, bringing the total number of recoveries in Qatar to 357,858.In a statement, the MoPH said that 66 of the new confirmed cases are among community and two cases among travellers, according to Qatar News Agency. Data also showed that there were 982 active cases as of yesterday. The ministry pointed out that that 6,514,699 Covid-19 vaccine doses have been administered since the start of the vaccination programme, adding that 12,555 vaccine doses have been given in the past 24 hours. The ministry added that 1,370,268 Covid-19 booster vaccine doses have been administered to date, explaining that 88.4% of the total population are now fully vaccinated with two doses. In its statement, the MoPH said there is clear evidence of the protective effects of the vaccines and the majority of patients being admitted to ICU with Covid-19 are either unvaccinated or had their second dose more than six months ago and have not received a booster dose.It also noted that the latest evidence shows that the country has passed the peak of the third wave of the pandemic, as the number of daily new cases of the virus continues to decrease, noting that the support of the community in adhering to the government restrictions and Covid-19 precautions, in addition to the high vaccination rate, have played a significant role in reaching this stage and stabilise the number of new daily cases. The MoPH called for caution and continued adherence to restrictions and precautionary and preventive measures, and to contact the 16000 helpline immediately if anyone suffering from Covid-19 symptoms, as early detection of the disease makes it easier to obtain appropriate treatment and increases the recovery chances.
