The Nepal embassy organised an awareness programme in co-ordination with the National Co-ordinating Council of the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA), Federation of Nepali Journalists, Qatar.
NRNA Qatar president Mohamed Muktada Musalman presided. Nepal embassy Charge d'Affaires Laxman Khanal, who was the chief guest, cautioned community members to be careful when using social media sites. He urged them to be mindful of the rules and regulations as well as local culture, tradition and norms so as not to jeopardise the peace and harmony among themselves as well as in the community and society in general.
He pointed out many users are found to be sharing unauthorised visuals even without knowing that they are acting against the rules. Stressing that unwarranted use of social site might hamper the privacy of individuals as well as the safety, security and harmony of the society, he appealed all to be responsible. He also requested the community members to follow information from official government sites only and not to share unverified information.
Karim Bakhs Miya, president of the Qatar branch of the Federation of Nepali Journalists, urged the participants to be aware of the legal issues that could arise due to misuse of social media. The programme was conducted by general secretary Padam Giri with technical assistance from Tilu Sharma Poudel.
