Qatar Airways flight QR579 from Delhi to Doha made an emergency landing in Pakistan's Karachi Monday "due to indication of smoke in the cargo hold", Qatar Airways spokesperson told Gulf Times. The flight is carrying over 100 passengers.

"Qatar Airways flight QR579 from Delhi to Doha on 21 March diverted to Karachi having declared an emergency due to the indication of smoke detected in the cargo hold. The aircraft landed safely at Karachi where it was met by emergency services, passengers disembarked orderly via stairs and were served breakfast at the airport," Qatar Airways spokesperson said.

The airline added that the incident is currently under investigation and a relief was immediately dispatched and is enroute to Karachi to transport passengers onwards to Doha. 

"We apologise for the inconvenience to our passengers who are being assisted with this onward travel plans."

 

UPDATE: Qatar Airways flight QR579 passengers on diverted flight to Karachi have departed on a relief flight and will land in Doha at 04:15PM local time where they will be assisted with their onward connections.

 

Passengers were served breakfast and refreshments throughout their time in Karachi.
