Jotun, one of the world’s leading paint and coatings manufacturers, inaugurated a new production facility in the New Industrial Area in Doha, Qatar. The factory is ready for production of up to 20 million litres of waterborne paints annually. This new factory is Phase 1 of a multi-phase investment plan Jotun has for Qatar in the coming 5 years. 40 employees will be working at the new site.

 

The new facility is built to maximize manufacturing capacity and product innovations to develop high quality paint solutions for the State of Qatar. Encompassing multiple departments such as production, quality control, raw material warehouse and administrative offices, the factory has been constructed in compliance with the highest HSEQ standards. The infrastructure boasts of high level of automation including energy efficient mixers, fully automatic filling lines and automatic dispensing system.

The factory is setup to promote Jotun’s GreenSteps initiative towards improving its environment performance. To achieve the sustainability goals, the facility has energy efficient lighting system, furniture made of recycled materials, and more than 80% of the generated waste is recyclable. Furthermore, innovative powder handling systems have been deployed to keep the factory and its surroundings dust free.

In line with Jotun’s values, a safe and healthy environment has been created for employees at the new site by implementing fully air-conditioned paint processing and filling areas. In addition, the forklifts for operators are air-conditioned to protect during extreme hot weather.

According to Morten Fon, “Jotun has been represented in Qatar for almost 40 years and demand for our products continues to increase. In accordance with Jotun's organic growth strategy, we are building the business stone by stone, and now is the time to establish our own production in the country.”

Factory inauguration successfully concludes the phase 1 of Jotun’s investment in Qatar. Commencing the phase 2, work has begun on a new warehouse that will cater to the warehousing needs for finished goods (paints, powder coatings). With 20 million litres storage capacity, the Jotun HSE standard warehouse is expected to be operational from December 2022. This investment reflects Jotun’s commitment and belief in Qatar National Vision 2030 and will also play a significant part in Qatar’s ambition of becoming a self-reliant state.
