Qatar Chamber, Portuguese AIMMP review fields of co-operation

Qatar Chamber recently held a meeting with the Portuguese Association of Wood and Furniture Industries (AIMMP) to review economic and commercial co-operation fields between the Qatari and Portuguese private sectors.Qatar Chamber board member Mohamed bin Ahmed al-Obaidly held discussions with AIMMP president Vitor Pocas in the presence of a number of representatives of Portuguese companies.    Al-Obaidly stressed that Qatari businessmen are interested to learn about opportunities available in Portugal and to establish partnerships with their Portuguese counterparts in the wood and furniture sectors. He noted that Qatar and Portugal enjoy distinct relations with bilateral trade volume witnessing a 60% growth from QR467mn in 2020 to QR751mn last year.Al-Obaidly invited Portuguese companies to invest in Qatar and take advantage of incentives offered to foreign investors in light of its attractive legislation and world-class infrastructure. He also underscored the chamber’s preparedness to inform them of the many opportunities available in Qatar with the aim to enhance co-operation with Qatari companies in genuine partnerships.Pocas said the visiting delegation, which consists of representatives from 25 companies specialising in wood and furniture, is interested to get acquainted with the Qatari market and to discuss the possibility of forging partnerships and alliances with Qatari firms.He noted that these companies showcased their products at the recently-concluded Build Your House (BYH) Exhibition 2022.Speaking about AIMMP, Pocas said the association represents Portuguese companies operating in the wood and furniture sectors. About 8,700 companies are members of the association with exports exceeding $2.6bn last year.Pocas affirmed his keenness to boost co-operation with Qatar Chamber to strengthen cooperation between companies from both countries. He stressed that Qatar is an important market in the GCC and the Middle East region, which is a leading destination for Portuguese exports of wood and furniture.
