The Ministry of Culture has announced that the first edition of Ramadan Book Fair will be held at Souq Waqif from April 8 to 16.
The event is being organised by the ministry, represented by Qatar Centre for Cultural and Heritage Events, in the western square of Souq Waqif. It will see the participation of the following entities: Qatar University House, Imam al-Bukhari, House of Culture, Samarkand Library, Dar al-Watad, Visual Arts Centre, Dar Nabja, Qatar Charitable Society, Dar Al Sharq, Qur’anic Botanic Garden, Akkas Centre and the International Organisation for the Study of the Holy Qur’an.
Also, some 35 publishers from nine countries will participate in book fair, namely Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Egypt, Turkey, India and Australia. The event is an extension of the Doha International Book Fair, and aims to promote books in Qatar by encouraging reading.
It also seeks to support Qatari publishers by marketing books and expanding the circle of readers, taking advantage of the atmosphere of the holy month to develop knowledge and celebrate the Qatari heritage to promote authentic cultural values.
The book fair will include cultural and religious events and activities, theatrical performances, and various activities for children.
