Expansion, restoration of graveyards progressing

Within Doha Municipality, the services affairs department is supervising the maintenance and development of the Mesaimeer graveyard and the municipal graveyard.
The Ministry of Municipality has been undertaking development works and projects to upgrade the graveyards in the municipalities of Doha and Al Khor and Al Thakhira. Within Doha Municipality, the services affairs department is supervising the maintenance and development of the Mesaimeer graveyard and the municipal graveyard. The works involve restoration of the walls, the expansion of Mesaimeer cemetery mosque, washing areas and additional gates to ease the entry and exit of vehicles and more parking lots for the visitors.
Ahmed al-Yafai, director of municipal services affairs department at Doha Municipality, said that the e-system for inquiries about graves is being updated in co-ordination with the information systems department, and the process of numbering graves is underway. The gravestones of the old graves are being replaced with high-quality ones. The second phase of rehabilitating the land for new graves at Mesaimeer cemetery will soon be prepared in coordination with the entity concerned.Trees are being planted at several places in the graveyard, in co-ordination with the public gardens department, in addition to the regular sanitisation and cleaning processes of the buildings dedicated for preparing bodies for burial and the parking lots. As for Al Khor and Al Thakhira Municipality, Hamad Ali Hazim al-Merakhi, director of the services affairs department, stressed that there are many maintenance and development works going on at the graveyards at Al Khor-Al Thakhira, Al Khuwairiah and Al Kaaban graveyards. These works include erecting new walls, expansion of Al Khor graveyard, new rooms for washing bodies, installing new lighting columns, installing interlock bricks at the corridors and more shades to ease the movement between different graves.
