Qatar’s health sector has launched the Ramadan Health website and introduced a companion smartphone and tablet app (Qatar Health) to serve as a reliable online resource devoted to health and wellness during the holy month.
In a statement on Tuesday, the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) said members of the public are encouraged to visit the website to get health tips and advice from doctors and healthcare professionals on several topics related to fasting, such as healthy diet, healthy lifestyles and quitting smoking during Ramadan.
One can visit the Ramadan Health website at http://hamad.qa/ramadanhealth or download the app to one's iOS phone by clicking this link: https://apps.apple.com/qa/app/qatar-health/id1381304305
Ali Abdullah al-Khater, chair of the Supreme Committee for Healthcare Communications, said: "It is our pleasure to extend to you our sincere congratulations and blessings on the advent of the holy month of Ramadan. May God bring it to us and to you with all goodness, prosperity and blessings.
"The holy month is a significant occasion and opportunity to promote healthy lifestyles. However, fasting is also associated to certain health issues. We are, therefore, pleased to launch this website, 'Your health in Ramadan', with a new layout to provide reliable health information on everything that matters to fasting in a simple and attractive way."
He continued, "Through this website, we aim to help community members stay healthy during the holy month of Ramadan, with the help of doctors and health professionals’ advice on fasting, healthy diet and all topics related to promoting healthy lifestyles, including quitting harmful habits such as smoking."
The website also includes information and guidance on health and health solutions for all common problems during the holy month of Ramadan, he noted. "We hope that the website will satisfy you as you find answers to your health questions and enquiries."
In statements to local daily Arabic Arrayah, al-Khater said this site is the first of its kind in Qatar. He noted that the MoPH, Hamad Medical
Corporation and the Primary Health Care Corporation are co-operating with each other to provide the necessary healthcare throughout the year in general and in the month of Ramadan in particular, for the sake of a healthy and disease-free society.
The launch of this website is dedicated to providing health tips and advice for safe fasting, he stressed. "The website includes important topics about the right food to consume, exercise and ways to maintain health and safety during the fasting month. It also has information about the benefits of fasting and the risks associated with it for patients suffering from health problems, as well as a daily calendar that includes health tips and answers to frequently asked questions.
