Top global aerospace company Boeing is “pleased to support” Qatar Airways as it reopens destinations and adds new routes, says Omar Arekat, company’s vice president for Sales and Marketing, Middle East and Africa.
“Qatar Airways is one of Boeing’s most highly valued partners,” Arekat said in an interview with Gulf Times.
“Despite the difficulties posed by the pandemic, the Group has demonstrated exceptional resilience during the crisis, and we are very pleased to support Qatar Airways as it reopens destinations and adds new routes to its network.
“Boeing is proud to continue to play a role in Qatar Airways’ success and to partner with the airline as it celebrates its 25th anniversary,” Arekat said.
Arekat congratulated Qatar Airways on its recent milestone orders from Boeing and thanked the airline for placing their trust in Boeing’s products.
“These significant investments in new generation Boeing airplanes will provide Qatar Airways with one of the most advanced and most efficient cargo and passenger fleets in the region, and will position the company for significant and sustainable growth in the future,” Arekat said.
Boeing, he said has “built long-standing relations” with both the State of Qatar and Qatar Airways.
“We deeply value these relationships, and are committed to building on them for mutual benefit.”
Boeing opened its office in Doha in 2010, which includes Boeing Defense, Space and Security as well as Boeing Commercial Airplanes and other support services operations. This in-country footprint has significantly enhanced the level and quality of services Boeing can provide to its customers in Qatar.
In terms of its relations with the State of Qatar, Arekat noted Boeing supplied the Qatari armed forces with C17 Globemaster III transport aircraft, Apache AH-64E helicopters, and the advanced F-15QA fighter aircraft, and provides training and support in the defence sector.
“Our collaboration with Qatar Airways was established more than 15 years ago, when they ordered 22 777s in May 2006, and less than a year later, in April 2007, placed a landmark order for 30 787 Dreamliner airplanes.
“Today Qatar Airways operates a fleet that includes more than 95 Boeing 777 and 787 passenger jets, and a cargo fleet that includes more than 25 777 freighters and 2 747-8 freighters,” Arekat pointed out.
He noted Boeing also collaborated with research, education and government institutions in Qatar on a range of initiatives to develop the aerospace sector and encourage young Qataris to develop careers in aviation, engineering and sciences, as well as entrepreneurship.
Since 2009, Boeing has worked with Injaz Qatar on annual employability and entrepreneurship programmes.
Since 2016, Boeing has supported Qatar University with curriculum enrichment and funding to students’ projects. Boeing has also funded the university outreach and retention programme.
Through the funding, the College of Engineering at Qatar University supported students’ innovation and design aspiration.
