As part of its 'Keep Lives Safe' (QRCS School Programme), Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) organised a fun-day event for a group of students with special needs from the Al-Tamakon For Comprehensive Education at KidZania Doha, with Rayyan Water Co joining as a sponsor. Twenty-nine students with special needs and 19 supervisers and parents took a tour around the amusement and theme park. They enjoyed the various facilities, including QRCS’s section, where they were introduced to the organisation’s relief, volunteering and other roles.
Also, they had a theoretical and practical demonstration on how to raise funds for humanitarian aid, as well as the mechanism of packaging, co-ordination, deployment abroad, and distribution to those in need. With such visits, QRCS aims to develop the skills of children in general, with a special focus on those with special needs, given their great importance as a social group of priority for QRCS’s local development projects. They deserve to be supported and encouraged to better integrate into society and contribute to its development, a press statement noted.
The visit coincided with the holy month of Ramadan, bringing a smile to the faces of children with special needs and letting them feel the spirituality and virtues of Ramadan. It is one of a series of psychological support visits to hospitals and specialised centres that serve those people.
Under a co-operation agreement, QRCS and KidZania Doha work together to implement joint activities and events aimed at amusing the children who face health difficulties and building their capacity using the concept of edutainment. The latest instances of co-operation between QRCS and KidZania Doha included a fun day for children with hearing disabilities being treated at Hamad Medical Corporation’s Audiology and Balance Unit and registered with QRCS’s social assistance programs, as well as a scouting camp for 50 students from several schools.
