The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has arrested two men from an Asian country for promoting and offering fake gold pieces for sale for a sum of QR1.5mn.
Acting on information regarding some individuals duping people with fake gold, the CID set up a specialised team to conduct searches and investigation, leading to the arrest of two suspects red-handed in the Mamoura area of Doha, the Ministry of Interior said on social media yesterday.
During interrogation, the accused revealed that they smuggled nearly 15kg of metal pieces to Qatar and mixed them with other materials to look like old gold pieces, to delude customers that they were ancient treasures.
The competent authorities at the Ministry of Interior have urged the public to buy and sell gold from authorised stores only and in accordance with the procedures followed.
