The Ministry of Culture's first edition of Ramadan Book Fair will begin on Friday at Souq Waqif in Doha. The event will run until April 16.
Final preparations for the launch of the distinctive cultural experience were announced on Thursday by event's director Jassim Ahmad al-Bouainain on the ministry's twitter page.
The objectives of the fair are to consolidate and promote books in Qatar and expand the circle of readers. Al Jasra Theater will house a number of cultural and religious seminars throughout the days of the exhibition.
In addition to the puppet theatre, there will be plays and cultural and religious activities for children, he added.
The event is being organised by the Ministry of Culture's Qatar Centre for Cultural and Heritage Events, in the western square of Souq Waqif. In addition to noted Qatari institutions and organisations, some 35 publishers from Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Egypt, Turkey, India and Australia will participate.
The event is an extension of the Doha International Book Fair, and aims to promote books in Qatar by encouraging reading.
