Qatar Chamber chairman Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim al-Thani has assured that the chamber will be actively involved in all activities and conferences to be organised by Arab or other international joint chambers.
Sheikh Khalifa made the statement in the latest edition of Al Moltaqa, Qatar Chamber’s economic magazine. He noted that the chamber places importance on the strengthening of communications with other chambers, as well as in the exchange of information, initiatives, and best practices that would benefit the Qatari private sector.
“There is no doubt that this participation confirms the role of joint chambers in promoting Arab economic action with many foreign countries by creating a favourable climate and a network of communication at both the official and private level,” Sheikh Khalifa said.
Recounting previous engagements, Sheikh Khalifa said Qatar Chamber participated in the annual coordinating meeting of the Joint Arab-Foreign Chambers held at the headquarters of the League of Arab States.
The meeting discussed the role of joint chambers in developing and promoting co-operation between Arab and foreign countries and in serving businessmen from both sides, he said.
Qatar Chamber also participated in the Federation of GCC Chambers meeting, wherein a committee was formed with the aim to develop the performance of the federation's general secretariat, functional structure, and administrative regulations that would serve the objectives of the federation, enhance its potential, and help in proposing new activities and events that support its financial resources. The committee is formed from four member chambers, including Qatar Chamber and the chambers of Kuwait, Bahrain, and Oman, Sheikh Khalifa said.
He said the chamber also participated in a meeting of the Union of Arab Chambers (UAC) board of directors, which was held in Cairo. The meeting discussed several issues and topics related to boosting co-operation between the private sectors of Arab countries. It also focused on issues that help in activating the intra-Arab trade and supporting the Greater Arab Free Trade Area (GAFTA) to achieve the Arab common market.
Sheikh Khalifa said the meeting underscored the importance of developing cooperation and working to highlight the most prominent fields for investment available in Arab countries, as well as facilitating the establishment of mutual investments that attract foreign investments, localise investments in Arab countries, and support the growth of inter-Arab trade.
Moreover, the chamber hosted the fifth meeting of the executive committee of the Federation of the Gulf Cooperation Council Chambers (FGCCC), Sheikh Khalifa also said.
“In this context and based on the support of Qatar for joint Gulf action to achieve economic integration among GCC states, we would like to confirm our continued support for all efforts to achieve integration and strengthen co-operation between all GCC chambers in favour of the Gulf economy,” he added.
