The Criminal Investigation Department at the General Directorate of Criminal Investigation arrested a person from an Asian country for stealing items from cars in different parts of the country, the Ministry of Interior (MoI) said on Tuesday.
After the department received many complaints regarding the theft of valuables from cars, a specialised team was formed immediately. The accused was held after intensifying search and investigation operations, and he confessed to the charges during interrogation, the MoI tweeted.
The accused used to steal from cars, especially unlocked vehicles. The stolen items were seized from the accused, and he was being referred to the competent authorities for further legal procedures against him, the ministry informed.
The competent authorities at the MoI have called on the public to take necessary preventive measures to secure vehicles from theft such as locking cars properly, not leaving valuables visible inside the car, and avoiding parking vehicles in uninhabited places.
The authorities have also urged the public to report suspicious cases by calling the emergency number, 999.
