Around 70% of construction works at the “Panda Park” project, located at Al Khor Park, have been completed, with the remaining work progressing well, a source has told local Arabic daily Arrayah.
The park will be opened to the public in the second half of this year, it is learnt.
The source pointed out that the “Panda Park” is a one-of-a-kind project in the region.
The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) had floated a tender to create a panda habitat according to a set of standards and conditions to provide a suitable environment and climate for pandas.
It was earlier announced that Qatar would house the first panda habitat in the Middle East and Arab world.
The panda, with its distinctive black and white coat, is adored the world over and considered a national treasure in China.
It has also been the logo of the World Wildlife Fund since its founding in 1961.
