‘The Global Filipinos,’ the first and only Filipino Advanced Toastmasters Club in District 116, Qatar, recently held its inaugural meeting, attended by dignitaries and Distinguished Toastmasters (DTM).
The event was the latest addition to the growing toastmasters family under Area 25, Division G of the Smedley Distinguished District of Toastmasters International.
The meeting was themed 'Pagsibol', a Filipino word which literally means germination and growth, symbolising the realisation of a dream to achieve greater milestones as one strong community propagating its tendrils with the support of its club sponsors: Filcom International Toastmasters Club and PSME-Q Toastmasters Club.
In the spirit of patriotism, the members donned Filipiniana attire – Barong Tagalog for men; Mestiza and Baro’t Saya for women.
Spearheading the event was the Charter Executive Committee led by Area 25 director and club president, Diana May Tangente, supported by officers, Leo Ortega, Trixie Lee Santos, Felipe Catinoy, Joahnna Mae Escoba, Cesar Ternida, and Michelle Macaraig. They were installed into office by the District 116 programme quality director Rajesh V C. The charter members were inducted by District 116 club growth director Ravishankar J.
The club's pioneer members (including the officers aforementioned) are Sherwin Olimpo, Grace Moran, Joseph Amande, Jann Carlo Rojas, Dorily Macaraeg, Florencio Sumilang, Marvin Drake Angeles, Nerieza Dimalao, Vincent Balbuena, Junece Mosqueda, and Lornalyn Tallod. They were also joined by the club sponsor, George Philip Leonardo, and club mentor Dr Rey Castillo.
The event was graced by District 116 director Manzoor Moideen, Division G director Alarmel Mangai, past region 11 advisor and brand ambassador Sonny Varghese, and past division governor Gil Bangalan. The guests included Jay Arre Dimalao, Olivia Lalas, Sheena Eugenio, and Mary Ann Umali.
According to the organisers, “the inaugural meeting was a celebration of pride and joy in bringing out an avenue for Filipino Toastmasters to flourish and help others explore their potentials in becoming confident and proficient communicators and transformational leaders in all facets of personal and professional development journey.
