GDCD, MES School organise fire safety awareness session

The General Directorate of Civil Defence (GDCD), Ministry of Interior, in collaboration with MES Indian School, organised a session on the topic 'Fire Prevention – A Shared Responsibility' for parents, students and staff of MES Indian School through a virtual platform.
Lt Sabah al-Thoumi, awareness officer, GDCD, was the speaker, while Eman Abdulsalam, safety trainer, GDCD, was the presenter of the session. An overwhelming response from parents and the school staff in terms of turnout was witnessed, the school said in a statement.The trainers dealt with topics such as general safety measures while handling home appliances, including gas cylinders, electric iron boxes and ovens, the ill-effects of overloading electric sockets, the general alertness and responsibilities of civilians and the safety of children at times of emergency, the use of first aid and ensuring the working condition of fire extinguishers installed at homes and workplaces, and double-checking whether all electrical and cooking appliances are turned off while leaving home, etc. It was also reiterated that ensuring fire safety is everyone’s responsibility within the community. Also, hands-on guidelines to avoid a fire breakout were provided. The session also witnessed a Q&A segment in which the participants clarified their doubts regarding the safety measures at times of emergency arising out of a fire breakout. Hameeda Kadar, principal of MES Indian School, addressed the gathering and complimented the trainer for providing a great insight into fire accidents and for having suggested preventive measures. Faisal al-Hudawi, Community Reachout Office co-ordinator, Ministry of Interior, co-ordinated the event.
