* Eid initiative covers Katara, Pearl-Qatar and Doha Corniche

As part of its efforts to intensify control and inspection efforts during the Eid al-Fitr holiday, Doha Municipality, represented by the health control section in the Municipal Control Department, is implementing an awareness and inspection campaign at food establishments located at Katara - the Cultural Village and The Pearl-Qatar as well as at restaurant kiosks participating in the ongoing Eid Festival on the Doha Corniche.
Salem Hammoud al-Shafi, director of the Municipal Control Department at Doha Municipality, and a number of inspectors and nutritionists have participated in the campaign.
The initiative, which will continue during the Eid holiday, aims to develop an integrated plan to train and educate all workers at food establishments on food safety methods such as preserving and displaying foodstuff. It will also make them aware of the correct methods of ensuring personal hygiene during work while educating consumers, school and university students on the safe and proper ways of shopping and choosing healthy foodstuff.
The health control section has carried out intensive inspection campaigns at sweets, nuts shops and restaurants. This is to ensure that healthy and sound methods are followed in the preparation and processing of foodstuffs and that all workers comply with health standards.
The section’s complaints team has also received and responded to a number of complaints and taken samples of a number of food items. These have been sent to the central laboratory to ensure their suitability for human consumption.
The campaign has also resulted in the seizure of expired food items from a restaurant and the issuance of a report noting a violation of Law No 8 of 1990 regarding the regulation of human food control.
