As a part of the International Labour Day, MES Indian School conducted an awareness seminar on ‘Welfare schemes for Non-Resident Indians,' for the staff.
Expat social worker Rauf Kondotty, the resource person, explained to the audience the various existing schemes including the pension scheme offered by the central and state governments of India. He urged all Non-Resident Indians to join such schemes. He stated that all such schemes of the governments come at nominal, affordable fees and hence low-income groups can also benefit. He also lamented that a very small section of the expatriate community takes interest in knowing about the facilities offered. It is the duty of the Indian community to share the information and people should have the knowledge about these life-changing schemes which are highly beneficial both for the individual and for the family in the long run, he added. The speaker also emphasised the importance of joining the Non-Resident Keralites Affairs (NORKA) agency and their employment cell and training programmes offered to Keralites. Principal Hameeda Kadar, in her speech, thanked the presenter for a session replete with key information and urged the staff members to join such welfare schemes. Administration and facilities head Mohamed Rashid co-ordinated the event and academic inspection head Baby Shana proposed a vote of thanks.
