The Economic and Cyber Crimes Combating Department at the General Directorate of Criminal Investigation has arrested five people for promoting the sale of clothes bearing the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 logo without obtaining prior approval from FIFA.
Acting on information about a social media account that promoted the sale of clothes bearing the World Cup logo, the Department arrested the accused and seized several clothes bearing the World Cup logo after a thorough search and investigation, Ministry of Interior said in a series of tweets.
The accused confessed to the charges against them when presented with the evidence. Accordingly, the accused and the seized items were referred to the competent prosecution to complete the legal procedures.
The ministry stressed that the Federation Internationale de Football Association "FIFA" had previously published many awareness messages regarding the use of intellectual property rights associated with FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 without obtaining the prior written consent of FIFA.
The competent authorities rugged everyone to abide by the laws and regulations governing intellectual property and not to violate the rights of others to avoid legal accountability.
