The Qur’anic Botanic Garden (QBG), the first garden in the world to exhibit all plant species mentioned in the Holy Qur’an, Hadith and Sunnah, recently welcomed a delegation from the embassy of Malaysia in Qatar. QBG’s staff welcomed the visitors with a guided tour through the garden, its facilities and its mock-up garden in Education City. The Malaysian delegation, consisting of Zamshari Shaharan, Malaysian ambassador and accompanying embassy officials, learned about the diverse range of plants and trees in Islamic culture and their relevance in the Holy Qur’an, Hadith and Sunnah, as well as QBG’s various environmental awareness campaigns and natural habitat restoration initiatives across Qatar. In addition, the guests were shown around QBG’s Botanical Museum, which exhibits plant modules and traditional tools made from plants, illustrates botanical terms in the Holy Qur’an, and immerses visitors in authentic Arab and Islamic heritage and traditions. The visit took place with strict adherence to social distancing and Covid-19 preventive and precautionary safety measures. Shaharan said, " It reminds us of the greenery mentioned in the Qur'an as a living testimony of Islam as a religion of the universe. We really appreciate the work done by the management to maintain this Islamic knowledge and illuminate the benefits for Muslims and others, as well as to disseminate the information to the public. The embassy looks forward to further collaboration between Malaysia and QBG to further expand knowledge transfer and the collection of the plants in the Garden."Embassies around Qatar, including the UK, Russia, Turkey and India, have also recognised the important role that QBG, a member of Qatar Foundation, plays in environmental conservation and restoration, and actively participate in QBG’s Ghars tree-planting campaign and other activities. In addition, embassies for countries including Mali, Djibouti, South Africa, and Senegal helped launch QBG’s African Women’s Diplomatic Garden recently – a first in the country – in celebration of Qatar Environment Day.
