Qatar, Spain share similar views in most international issues: Qatari envoy

Ambassador of Qatar to Spain Abdullah bin Ibrahim al-Hamar stressed that the visit of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani to Spain will boost bilateral ties between the two countries in different fields. Speaking to Qatar News Agency (QNA), the envoy said that His Highness is making his first visit to Spain as the Amir, adding that the visit will open up the scope of co-operation in different fields, whether political, economic, cultural, or sports related.He also said that the two countries share the same views regarding most international issues, as they both support resolving conflicts through peaceful means that ensures maintaining the sovereignty of countries and respect of international law. He also said that the two sides hold political consultations and officials exchange visits to discuss international developments.On the economic front, the ambassador said that Qatar is the biggest Arab investor in Spain, with total investments worth 21bn euros. He added that there were 170 Spanish companies operating in Spain in different fields. He also said that the Qatari-Spanish Business Council can play a role in expanding investments even further. On the cultural front, the ambassador said the two sides enjoy distinguished ties in that field. He noted that Spanish architects contributed to the design of three stadiums that will host the FIFA World Cup 2022. As for sports, the national team is coached by Spain's Felix Sanchez. The Qatari league is also filled with some of the most talented Spanish players.On the sports front, the ambassador said there is a Spanish imprint in Qatari sports, as the coach of the Qatari national football team is the Spanish Felix Sanchez, and there are many Spanish football stars who play in Qatari clubs and transfer their experiences to Qatari players. On the other hand, Qatar has investments in a number of Spanish sports clubs.He noted that the existing co-operation between Qatar and Kingdom of Spain in all fields reflects the extent of mutual trust between the two countries, stressing that the visit of His Highness the Amir to the Kingdom of Spain promises to open up wider horizons to enhance and advance this co-operation.
