The Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) on Sunday participated in the Arab Energy Efficiency Day observance by the General Secretariat of Arab League at its headquarters in Cairo, a statement said.
Kahramaa president engineer Issa bin Hilal al-Kuwari attended the event held under the auspices of Ahmed Abu El-Gheit, Secretary-General of the Arab League, in coordination with the Regional Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency.Al-Kuwari attended the event as the head of the Executive Office of the Arab Ministerial Council for Electricity after Qatar was chosen to head the office during the meetings of the 14th meeting of the council and the 37th meeting of the Executive Office of the Council, held in Doha in March 2022.The Kahramaa chief stressed the importance of the growing interest of all member states in energy efficiency and sustainability issues, praising the great keenness of the representatives of Arab countries to raise the level of coordination and joint work among all stakeholders in the energy sector.Al-Kuwari pointed to the magnitude of the challenges being faced by the energy sector globally and in the Arab world, especially in light of the repercussions of the Covid-19 pandemic and international turmoil and tensions and their wide impacts on energy supplies. He said that these events have negative repercussions that appear through inflation rates that threaten the most fragile societies and push millions below the poverty line. "The need has arisen more than ever to intensify efforts to build modern, flexible and highly efficient energy systems that are able to adapt to various circumstances in order to achieve deep and sustainable energy security that supports economic growth in our countries and forms a solid safety net capable of adapting to various crises," he said. The Kahramaa president affirmed Qatar's commitment to support all initiatives and projects that would raise the level of Arab energy security and achieve sustainability goals, stressing that hosting the first carbon-neutral version in the history of the FIFA World Cup is a great achievement for the Arab region as a whole.
