Qatar Research Development and Innovation (QRDI) Council has signed two memorandums of understanding with the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation and the Centre for the Development of Industrial Technology (CDTI) for enhancing co-operation, exchanging experiences, building capabilities and facilitating communication between the two innovation systems in Qatar and Spain.
QRDI Secretary General Engineer Omar Ali al-Ansari signed the first MoU with Spanish Minister for Science and Innovation Diana Morant, and the second MoU with CDTI general director Javier Ponce Martinez.
The MoU with the ministry is based on close bilateral relations and effective co-operation between the governments of Qatar and Spain.
It aims to promote and develop joint work in research and innovation, exchange knowledge and scientific and technological expertise, build institutional capacities and skills for the national system supporting innovation and the growth of the private sector and emerging companies based on advanced technology.
It also aims to co-operate on the growth and progress of economic sectors of strategic interest, especially health, environment, energy, agriculture, food, transport and information and communication technology, in addition to promoting and developing joint work in the field of innovation, scientific research, development, transfer and dissemination of advanced technology.
The two sides will seek to achieve the objectives of the MoU through several means, including industrial and academic co-operation, co-operative projects in research and development, innovative industrial parks, knowledge sharing protocols, intellectual property and capabilities, among others.
As the CDTI is the legal entity responsible for managing and developing technological innovation policies for the Spanish ministry, the second signed MoU aims to exchange experiences and co-operate in order to support the competitiveness of the national industries of the two countries through joint projects for industrial research and technological development. It also envisages support and financing of business and industry sector to jointly develop technological co-operation projects, in addition to funding research and development in economic sectors of strategic interest in both countries.
In this regard, the secretary general of QRDI said strengthening co-operation and building links with actors in the field of innovation at the global level is an essential factor in developing the national innovation system.
He added "QRDI always seeks to build relationships with those who have the same ambitions as us."
Al-Ansari said through partnerships like these, QRDI can better identify innovation opportunities and encourage networking with innovators in order to lead innovation in different sectors, with the development of Qatar's capabilities in the field of innovation and the promotion of the objectives of the National Research, Development and Innovation Strategy 2030.
Through these partnerships, the QRDI Council brings diverse stakeholders together to work together. It fosters an innovation-focused environment that attracts talent and advanced technologies, and helps diversify the Qatari economy. (QNA)
