Cabinet okays move to set up academics' commission

The Cabinet has approved a draft decision to establish the National Commission for Qualifications and Academic Accreditation, Qatar News Agency (QNA) reports.The draft's provisions stipulate that the Ministry of Education and Higher Education shall establish a commission called the National Commission for Qualifications and Academic Accreditation, to comprise a chairperson and no less than eight and no more than 10 members - academics and specialists with experience, competence and scientific standing - to be appointed by a decision of HE the Prime Minister, on the proposal of HE the Minister.
Within the framework of the State's general policy, the commission "undertakes general supervision of the national qualifications framework and its updating, conducts academic accreditation, applies quality assurance standards for higher education institutions in the State, and contributes to their development to enhance confidence in them" the QNA report states. To this end, it may exercise all the powers stipulated in the aforementioned national qualifications framework.This came at the Cabinet's regular meeting at the Amiri Diwan Wednesday, chaired by HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz al-Thani.Following the meeting, HE the Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Mohamed bin Abdullah al-Sulaiti issued a statement giving the details of the proceedings.The Cabinet also approved the cloud computing policy framework document.The adoption of the document comes as a platform to attract foreign and local investments in new digital services, support the growth of the national economy, complete digital transformation in the country, and help achieve Qatar's goal of becoming a global digital centre.Further, the Cabinet approved a draft Cabinet decision amending some provisions of Decision No. 26 of 2004 establishing the National Committee for the Prohibition of Weapons.The preparation of the draft comes within the framework of the administrative restructuring of some entities, and the addition of a representative from Qatar University to the membership of the aforementioned committee.The Cabinet also approved the following:* A draft general agreement for the establishment of the Arab common market for electricity.* A draft agreement on the Arab common market for electricity.* A draft air services agreement between the governments of Qatar and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.Meanwhile, the Cabinet took the necessary measures to ratify an agreement on legal and judicial co-operation in criminal matters between the governments of Qatar and Algeria.The Cabinet also reviewed a draft law on higher education and took the appropriate decision.
Nod for health insurance plan for visitors, tourists The Cabinet has approved a proposal of the Ministry of Public Health to adopt the benefits package and the premium for visitors and tourists' insurance, in accordance with the provisions of Law No 22 of 2021 regulating healthcare services within the country, QNA reports. |
