* 59th Africa Day commemorated
 
Qatar has distinguished and excellent relations with Africa as an outcome of the ongoing fruitful and positive co-operation between Qatar and the African continent, ambassador Abdulla bin Hassan al-Jaber, director of the African Affairs Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has stressed.
Al-Jaber made the observation while addressing a large gathering of representatives of African and other diplomatic missions in Qatar at the Diplomatic Club Wednesday evening to mark the 59th Africa Day. The event was organised by the Egyptian embassy and hosted by Egyptian ambassador to Qatar Amr El-Sherbini as the president of the African Group of Ambassadors in Doha.



Al-Jaber welcomed the participants from around 30 African countries and other guests, stressing that Qataris have great love for their countries. He said Qatar has fostered good relations with the African countries for many years. Besides, he expressed the desire of the country to further enhance such relations and make them more distinguished for the good of all. Accordingly, he thanked the ambassador of Egypt for organising such an event and considered it a great opportunity to further enhance Arab-African relations and co-operation in general and co-operation in all possible fields.



The Egyptian ambassador highlighted the importance of the occasion, which commemorates the establishment of the African Union, which ushered in a new era in terms of the progress of African collaboration and enhancing of joint work among the countries in the African continent.
"On this day, we are reaping the fruits of the efforts of founders and the work of successive generations in Africa. Our dear continent is steadily going ahead towards achieving sustained development through the implementation of the ambitious development plan of the 2063 strategy," said El-Sherbini.



Accordingly, he expressed his deep thanks to the brotherly Qatar for the great and increasing care given by Qatar to Africa and its keenness to be a trustworthy and active partner in the economic development of Africa.
"Qatar is working hard to develop and further establish its co-operation with the countries of Africa in all fields through employing the best capabilities and possible opportunities that serve the joint interests of our dear continent," said El-Shirbini.
He noted that Africa is open for co-operation with all the international partners from governments, international organisations and the private sector, in addition to the world financial organisations to build the Africa of the future. This would be carried out as part of the fair exchange of interests, and it would participate towards enhancing the stability and welfare of the world and enrich the overall human experience.
Each of the participating African countries at the event was keen to display some parts of its distinctive culture, arts, cuisine and the richness of its people's skills in different fields.
The event included live cultural performances, such as folk dances from different African countries with the participants dressed in their traditional national costumes. The event displayed the joyful, colourful and youthful image of Africa, and as a land with huge potential for the future in different fields such as business, arts and culture.
