Qatar recorded a population of more than 2.85mn at the end of May, marking both a monthly and yearly increase.
The total population of 2,852,886 included 2,065,451 males and 787,435 females, according to data available on the Planning and Statistics Authority (PSA) website.
In comparison, Qatar had a population of 2,773,598 in April this year and 2,628,512 in May 2021.
The PSA also released the 100th issue of the 'Qatar: Monthly Statistics' bulletin, highlighting the most important statistical changes that occurred in
the country during April 2022.
Regarding vital statistics, the bulletin said 1,567 live births were registered during April and there was a decrease in the number of total Qatari
live births by 20.4% compared to the previous month. On the other hand, 218 deaths were recorded during the same period, a decrease of 2.7% compared to March 2022.
Moreover, April 2022 experienced a monthly decrease of 39.4 and 38.9% in marriage contracts and divorce certificates, respectively. The total number of marriage contracts was 245, whereas the total number of divorces reached 157 cases.
Meanwhile, a total of 695 traffic accident cases were recorded in April 2022, showing a monthly decrease of 14.2% and an annual rise of 37.6%. Minor injuries accounted for the vast majority of traffic accident cases in April, at 91%, followed by severe injuries at 6%. Also, 19 deaths were recorded, equivalent to 3% of the total traffic accident cases, the PSA said in a statement.
The value of social security statements reached QR78mn in April this year for 14,382 beneficiaries, recording a monthly decrease of 0.2% in terms of value and a monthly increase of 0.5% in terms of the number of beneficiaries.
The bulletin said total electricity consumption during April 2022 saw a monthly increase of 17.5% and an annual rise of 6.1%. Total water consumption also increased in April, by 4.3% compared to the previous month and by 3.7% annually.
