*Qatar participates in World Summit on the Information Society Forum
The activities of the World Summit on the Information Society 2022 concluded at the headquarters of the International Telecommunication Union in Geneva, in which Qatar participated with an official delegation that included representatives of several authorities in the country.
Over five days of the event, the plans of the International Telecommunication Union in the field of advancing the ICT sector were reviewed, in addition to presentations made by member states on the progress made in the digital transformation sector.
Qatar was represented in the forum, which is considered the largest annual gathering around the world for information and communication technology, by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology with the participation of several authorities in the country, including the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy, the Communications Regulatory Authority, the Planning and Statistics Authority, the Mada — Qatar Assistive Technology Center, and Ehsan Center.
Qatar participated this year as a golden strategic partner, where the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology reviewed the country's strategy in digital transformation and its ambitious and innovative programmes in the information and communications technology sector.
The Qatar's Ministry of Communications and Information Technology won the "Heroes" award at the summit in the "Building confidence and security in the use of information and communication technology" category for its "Safe Space" project, which aims to instill a culture of digital security and safety.
The Ministry of Communications project won after outperforming 5 other projects that were submitted to the competition to win this category of award.
Mashael Ali al-Hammadi, Acting Assistant Undersecretary for Information Technology Affairs at the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology and head of Qatar's delegation to the forum, said that Qatar is keen to participate in these annual forums with the aim of learning about global experiences and initiatives in the field of digital transformation and information technology, in addition to reviewing the successes achieved by the state in this regard.
Al-Hammadi added that the Qatari participation in this year's forum achieved great success, especially after winning two prestigious awards, the first for the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology and the second for Ehsan Center, which indicates that the development in the field of information technology is progressing at a steady pace in Qatar through many programmes and ambitious plans in this important sector.
