The Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants (Picpa) Doha’s first Summer Badminton Cup turned out to be an outstanding hit among Picpans, their families, and friends.
The tournament saw 58 badminton enthusiasts who competed in their respective categories. There were five in men’s division and two in women’s division with 46 matches over all.
In his opening remarks, Picpa Doha president Abdul Rahim G Gandamra emphasised that the objective was to further strengthen and enhance the bonds, promote camaraderie, build friendships among members and the general community and promote physical activities. The event was organised by Picpa Doha chairman for sports, Rey E Barcena.
Men’s division champions were Earn Della Torre and Mark Alfonso (B category), Marlon Torres and Kristianne Barcelona (C), Abdul Rahim Gandamra and Marlon Podot (D), Elmer Espiritu and Jhaylor Manansala (E), and Jhae Angeles and Richard Dasco (F).
Runners-up in men’s division were Arc Alonzo and Mark Sanches (B), Don P and Ryan T (C), Jehmar Tabili and Bryan Cemania (D), Harvey Bryan Legaspi and R-Jay Alavera (E) and Chazzy Barcelone and Louie Fruto (F).
Women’s division champions were Rhianne Cassey Caburnay and Diana Caburnay (Upper B category), and Joy Zerudo and Jonalyn Paculba (Lower B category) while runners-up were Marilou Behenia and Florina Pontepedra (Upper B category) and Ivy Angeles and Manilyn Neptuno (Lower B category).
Marlon Torres and Krtistianne Barcelona were hailed as the Most Valuable Player in men’s division and Joy Zerudo and Jonalyn Paculba in women’s division.
The winners were presented with a medal, stuffed toy, and gift vouchers from various sponsors.
