Generation Amazing celebrates annual completion of schools’ programme in Qatar

The Generation Amazing Foundation – a FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 legacy programme delivered by the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC) – has marked the end of term for its schools’ programme.A celebration event was held to mark the occasion at Qatar Foundation’s Multaqa Ballroom in Education City and attended by representatives from 26 schools across the country.The annual programme, which is delivered in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, sees children benefit from sport for development sessions that teach a variety of life skills, including leadership, communication and teamwork. The lessons also tackle issues like gender inequality, exclusion, bullying, climate change and cultural barriers. The goal of the programme – which is also active in Jordan and Oman – is to enhance the wellbeing of children, their families and the widercommunity through training, collaboration, creativity and inclusion, the SC said in a statement.Nasser al-Khori, Generation Amazing Programmes director, said: “We are proud to deliver this programme in Qatar, Jordan and Oman during the lead-up to the FIFA World Cup in Qatar. In-person training is a key element of the programme – which is something we have managed to implementsmoothly following the challenges caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.”Al-Khori continued, “We have successfully set a strong foundation for the programme to become a core part of the curriculum provided in schools every year. We are paving the way for sports development and showcasing the strong legacy Qatar 2022 will leave behind in this country and across the region.”Faisal al-Bader, head of the PE Department, Educational Guidance Department, Ministry of Education and Higher Education, said: “We are pleased to attend the celebration event and mark the end of term for the schools’ programme. We would like to thank Generation Amazing and the SC for honouring the students and teachers involved.”He added, “We are keen to support any initiatives that develop the curriculum and help the country achieve the goals set out in Qatar National Vision 2030.”Part of the schools’ programme involved training local PE teachers at the new Generation Amazing Community Club in Lusail. Training consisted of in-person and e-learning modules, after which the teachers delivered sessions to their students.
