The Armed Forces celebrated on Thursday the arrival of a training ship for candidates, “Al Shamal”, which came to Doha from Turkey, under the patronage of HE the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defense Affairs Dr Khalid bin Mohammed al-Attiyah, and in the presence of HE the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces Lieutenant-General (Pilot) Salem bin Hamad al-Nabit.

A ceremony was held that included a tour for HE Staff Lt-Gen al-Nabit on board “Al Shamal”, during which he was briefed on the trip, the ship and its equipment.

The ship was inaugurated at Turkey’s Anadolu Shipyard in February this year in the presence of HE the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defense Affairs.

“Al Shamal” is one of the world's largest training ships in the world. It will be an important resource for training student candidates from the Mohammed bin Ghanem Al Ghanem Maritime Academy.

During the course of the voyage, the ship received approximately 80 candidates from the academy, where they received theoretical and practical lessons that included entry and exit procedures from ports, navigation, and safety procedures. (QNA)
