The embassy of South Korea has said it does not have any confirmed plan to invite a specific K-pop band to perform during the cultural events it is planning in Qatar.
This came in response to an article in Gulf Times saying K-pop band BTS is expected to come to Doha this year.
Regarding the abovementioned article, titled 'K-pop sensation BTS to perform in Qatar' (published on June 10), the embassy said in a statement Saturday: "While the embassy is planning various cultural events in close co-operation with related Korean agencies and Qatari counterparts, the embassy does not have any confirmed plan to invite a specific K-pop band for these cultural events.”
Earlier, South Korean ambassador Lee Joon-ho had said the embassy was planning to hold many cultural as well as taekwondo events in the lead-up to the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, bringing cultural and athletic performers from South Korea.
These form part of the embassy’s efforts to promote Korean culture and entice more Koreans to visit Qatar during the prestigious football tournament, scheduled from November 21 to December 18.
