Qatar University Young Scientists Centre (QU-YSC) supported five high school groups to participate in this year's International Exhibition of Invention, Innovation and Technology 2022 (ITEX) with distinguished scientific research developed at QU, winning four gold medals and a silver medal.ITEX 2022 was held in Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur.
 

 
This achievement, which represents Qatar and QU, was achieved in a strong competition that included 482 participating projects submitted by 32 countries. The centre's students have bagged 69 international and local awards in research and innovation over the past years, QU said in a statement.
The winners were announced on the official exhibition website, and different groups from Al-Arqam Secondary Academy for Girls won gold medals: Hajar al-Jumaili and Maha al-Maraghi for a research titled 'The effect of inhibiting Aryl Hydrocarbon receptors on the immune system CTLA-4 in colon cancer stem cells'; Wadja al-Qatami for a paper titled 'Generation of blue energy using a water salinity gradient in a seawater reverse osmosis (SWRO) desalination plant', and Noura al-Abdullah and Jawaher al-Ansari for a paper titled 'The effect of electrodeposition composite nano-coatings of Ni-P-BN to prevent corrosion of steel'. A paper titled 'Towards the Development of the Next Generation of Printable Carbon-Based Photovoltaic Technology (mPSCs)' also won.
Students Ali Shams and Mohamed Radwani from Al Jazeera Academy for Boys won a silver medal for a research titled 'Developing the next generation of printable photovoltaic technology' for carbon-based printing (mPSCs)'.
Prof Noora al-Thani, director of QU-YSC, expressed pride in the students’ achievement at the global level, which indicates their awareness of the
importance of harnessing science, investigation and research to find solutions to contemporary problems and challenges using scientific, engineering or technological methods. The professor also stressed the centre's keenness to provide a supportive environment for students and encourage them to participate in international participation for the benefit of them and to provide them with the necessary expertise to develop projects and inventions and to represent Qatar globally to highlight its scientific and research output.
She also thanked the centre's partners - Unesco, Doha Office and the Qatar National Committee for Education, Culture and Science.
The International Invention, Innovation and Technology Exhibition, featuring the best innovations and discoveries from around the world, is a leading exhibition for displaying new inventions, technologies and products. It aims to secure opportunities and partners for investment, manufacturing and marketing, and to enable young researchers to move from the stage of scientific discovery to commercial application in line with the trends of the world.
