The 3-2-1 Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum (QOSM) has partnered with the International Physical Literacy Association, Qatar Olympic Committee, Unesco, Qatar’s Ministry of Public Health, and Generation Amazing to promote physical literacy across Qatar and the region.
A joint conference on “Discovering Physical Literacy” will be held at 3-2-1 QOSM from June 22 to 23, 2022 to coincide with the International Olympic Day.
Qatar’s National Physical Literacy Journey will also be launched at the event. The Journey concept aims to introduce the idea of physical literacy, showcase some examples of where physical literacy has been impactful across the world, and discuss the application of the concept within Qatar and across the wider region.
Physical literacy involves holistic lifelong learning through movement and physical activity. It delivers physical, psychological, social, and cognitive health and well-being benefits. It also improves academic performance, spatial awareness and supports the development of healthy lifestyle habits in children and young people.
3-2-1 Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum Director, Abdulla al-Mulla, said: “Physical learning is a fundamental element in education and the development of moral and intellectual knowledge. Understanding and implementing the concept of physical literacy has been proven to help fight childhood obesity and the rising inactivity among children, which is an issue much of the developed world is currently grappling with.
“As a museum and institution built on the basis of the Olympic spirit, we seek new ways of encouraging all people to engage positively with physical activity, physical education, and sport and look forward to the dynamic dialogue sure to happen during the conference in June.”
Furthermore, given the nation’s growing enthusiasm and demand for varied sporting activities, the conference will feature in-depth discussions on establishing a framework for the implementation of physical literacy within the sectors of education, sport, health and environment in Qatar and the region.
The conference will feature presentations by renowned physical literacy experts from the United Kingdom, Canada, and Qatar who will discuss the rapid application of physical literacy as a guiding concept for a healthy lifestyle across the world. attendees will also have the opportunity for personal discussions with the international presenters.
