Science India Forum Qatar (SIF-Q), under the patronage of the Indian embassy in Qatar, conducted a webinar training for guide teachers mentoring science projects for the National Children Science Congress (NCSC).
During the opening session, SIF-Q president Ravi Narayanan described NCSC as an ideal and innovative programme for children to inspire, empower and expand their minds to scientific research. It carries the spirit and mandate of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) of Unesco, Right to Education (RTE, 2009) and National Curriculum Framework (NCF, 2005).
Since 2015, SIF-Q conducts this programme, based on various themes and sub-themes. The event was attended by more than 250 teachers across the Gulf region. They will guide the students for the science projects in their respective schools and communities.
The webinar was conducted by eminent academician Dr Hemant Pande, a master trainer and mentor for various competitive exams. He shared his experience thereby guiding the participating teachers on how a simple idea gets converted into a science project and finally to a product.
He emphasised the role of teachers to encourage students to develop an idea, help them to turn it into a big project and eventually a product.
Dr Pande shared some interesting projects taken up by his students that were recognised both at national and international levels.
Guide teacher should help students to get an idea all by themselves and then to develop that idea further in science project, he said. Dr Pande also advised on how to monitor the project effectively with internal assessment and to make it a winning project.
Ideal Indian School director Dr M P Hassan Kunhi and principal Syed Shaukat Ali were the special guests.
